SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
What a shame, not to find any cues composed by Theodore Shapiro
(The Devil Wears Prada, Idiocracy) on this soundtrack album.
While it contains 14 tracks of music used in the outrageously
wacky action comedy, there is no hint of Shapiro’s homage
to the classic American war movie score. Guess the soundtrack
producers wanted to milk more money from consumers by releasing
two separate albums, one containing all songs and the other
containing Shapiro’s compositions.
This
56 minute album kicks off with a special remix of “The
Name of the Game (The Crystal Method’s Big A** T.T.
Mix)” performed by American electric music duo The Crystal
Method. The track contains dialogues spouted by the movie’s
stars Ben Stiller (who is also the producer of this soundtrack),
Robert Downey Jr. (who scored a Best Supporting Actor Oscar
nomination for his hilarious role), Jack Black (who makes
us laugh just by looking painful) and Nick Nolte (who made
us sit up with his comedic portrayal of the war veteran).
Listen to this to see whether you can remember those memorable
scenes from the movie – and watch out for that expletive
language!
Following
that is two 1970s hits: “Ball of Confusion (That’s
what the World is Today) performed by the famed Motown Records’
The Temptations and “Run through the Jungle” performed
by American rock and roll band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
These two cues are pleasantly “vintage” to listen
to, and should be accessible to the average listener’s
ears.
Enigma’s
“Sadeness, Pt. 1” will remind you of the fake
trailer of gay (!) melodrama “Satan’s Alley”
starring Downey Jr. and Tobey McGuire. MC Hammer’s “U
Can’t Touch This” and Dan Hill’s “Sometimes
when we Touch” will also bring on the funny images you
saw on screen. Don’t be surprised if you chuckle while
listening to these unintentionally funny tracks.
The
rest of the album contains passable music which will feel
the airwaves during a one hour road trip around the island.
Get this soundtrack for its opening cue – it’s
worth it just by listening to the cast’s voices in the
exclusive remix.
