SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:

I’ve always envied people who can twitch their hips effortlessly on the dance floor. I’ve tried my best to imitate their moves, but instead of looking cool like them, I often end up looking like an idiot instead. So when this soundtrack to the latest it’s-so-cool-to-show-your-groove movie about dancing shows up at my desk, I couldn’t help but begin thinking that the energetic music will improve my dance steps.

There is about an hour of music on this disc, and I’m sure this generous helping of hip-and-happening songs will do me good. Kicking off the album is Flo Rida’s familiar rendition of the infectious “Low”, which gets things going on a high. Then comes along Missy Elliot’s aptly titled and arranged “Shake Your Pom Pom”, and this is the one track that truly made me that anyone can dance. The other new track by the Grammy Award winner is “Ching-A-Ling”, which is equally catchy and fiery.

Before long, you would have gotten a taste of how this entire album is going to be like. The head-bobbing tunes, the bouncy raps and the heavy rhythms are definitely not for those who like their music lyrical and sweet. The closest radio-friendly pop songs are Cassie’s “Is It You” and Trey Songz’s “Can’t Help But Wait (Feat. Plies)”. These performers’ soulful vocals help to soothe things down a bit.

The album features well-known performers like the abovementioned Missy Elliot, as well as rapper Plies, hip-hop R & B singer “I’m So Lonely” Akon and Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias. There are also up-and-coming new artistes like Cherish, Yung Joc and Brit & Alex, which all you party hopper may want to listen out for.

Meanwhile, excuse me while I take a break from the head-splitting music I’ve just heard. I need to revisit it again soon if I want to be part of the in crowd the next time I make my way to the dancefloor.
