SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:

If hangovers can be cured by listening to songs like those represented on this album, this reviewer would not mind drinking his heart out every night. The Todd Phillips directed movie tells of a groom and his groomsmen travelling to Las Vegas for a bachelor’s party, only to have the groom missing the next morning. Not a very nice thing, if this actually happened to you in real life. But with the company of this 36 minute album, things may not be that drowsily miserable.

The collection of 12 songs kicks off with Mexican American rock and roll artist El Vez’s rendition of “It’s Now or Never”, a swaggering guilty pleasure which will having you swaying to the loopy beats. Danzig’s hypnotic “Thirteen” follows the opening track, and this cue would please those who love soft rock. The American all female hard rock band The Donnas ups the energy level by notches with “Take It Off”, promising you an ear piercing listening experience.

American punk band gives their sexiest performance of the popular tune “Fever”, soothing your gentle nerves. After pioneer rock artist Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps’ vintage sounding “Wedding Bells (Are Breaking Up That Old Gang of Mine)”, we get multi talented Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight”. How can anyone not be heartbroken when the singer songwriter soulfully croons the heartrending lyrics “But I know the reason why you keep your silence up/ No you don’t fool me/ The hurt doesn’t show/ But the pain still grows”?

This is one classic track you want to listen to when you are down and out.

The humour picks up with Ed Helms’ (one of the hilarious groomsmen in the movie) “Stu’s Song”. If the actor gives up acting, he can seriously consider cutting an album. After a series of very accessible songs (and aptly titled ones, too) like Treat Her Tonight’s “Rhythm and Booze” and Zach Galifianakis’ “Three Best Friends”, the album is rounded up with the very amusing (explicit lyrics included) song “Candy Shop”. Performed by the American Dan Finnerty and The Dan Band, the song talks about, well, hitting the spot and licking lollipops – you’ve got to listen it to realise its hilarity.

Now, with a collection of diverse songs like this, it’s definitely worth getting a morning hangover every now and then.
