SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:

As tacky as it sounds, I actually got a cheap thrill reviewing this 51-minute soundtrack album.

Twelve out of the 24 tracks on this disc are dialogue recordings from Rob Zombie’s re-imagining of John Carpenter’s horror movie. And each one of them had me chuckling and sniggering how cheesy they were.

Check out lines like: “We are dealing with a soulless killing machine driven by pure animal instinct!”; “It sounds to me like you are talking about the anti-Christ!” and “I thought she couldn’t stand the stress of being labeled Satan’s mother.” And who wouldn’t laugh at 12-second track named “The Scream” which consists of well, a 12-second high and shrill scream.

The rest of the album (note: parent advisory caution with explicit content) contains 1970s rock music like Blue Oyster Cult’s catchy “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and Kiss’ scarily noisy “God of Thunder”. Elsewhere, listen out for the somewhat dated but thrilling “Tom Sawyer” by Rush and “1969” by Iggy Pop.

Tyler Bates contributes two score tracks on this album, and they are a hoot to listen to. While “The Shape Stalks Laurie” evokes a scarily cheesy image of a monster lurking in the background, it is “Halloween Theme 2007” that will rock your socks off. The famous theme will leave you giggling and snorting at how horror pictures like these will make you laugh and cry at the same time.
