SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:

It was just two years ago when we remember using “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late” as a Christmas greeting to either: 1) make people smile with surprise upon hearing the cuteness of the song, or 2) make people grunt with irritation upon hearing the “cuteness” of the song. Yes, the tune from the soundtrack of the first “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie was rather entertaining… for some.

And the trio is back with their second movie, and of course, a second soundtrack album. Sharing the limelight with them this time round are three other furry singing voices - Bring on The Chipettes!

First things first, we’d recommend this CD to all children aged five and below. Any kid older than that may not buy the overflowing cuteness from The Chipmunks and their companions The Chipettes. The last this reviewer heard, the same goes for the live action movie too.

The 15 songs contained on this 50 minute disc is a mix of radio friendly tunes which will please the pop music fan in you. Kicking off the album is “You Really Got Me” performed by The Chipmunks, featuring pop group Honor Society. This is also one of the two tracks on the CD where you’d actually hear proper human singing human voices. The next time you’d hear a human voice would be 13 tracks later in “No One” performed by The Chipmunks, featuring Filipina singer Charice. Filling the gap in between are familiar songs like “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “Shake Your Groove Thing”.

To be honest, we cannot really tell whether it is The Chipmunks or The Chipettes singing otherwise. The altered voices (we’d really like to see their recording sessions in the studios) don’t really tell us who is male and who is female. One song we really enjoyed though, is “We Are Family”, a feel good tune worth playing at all party finales.

Oh, and if you really must know, by the abovementioned recommended track (13th out of the 15 songs), we have already taken two breaks to soothe our ears. We seem to be too old for this, really.

ALBUM RATING:

Recommended Track: : (13) We Are Family
