SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:

If 150 minutes of Autobots and Decepticons blowing up everything in sight is too much for your weak heart, you’d be pleased to hear that the soundtrack album for the Michael Bay explode-a-minute extravaganza has a total runtime of only 52 minutes, and there are some nice and mellow tunes in between to soothe those gentle nerves.

The rollicking compilation of 13 tracks from some of rock’s biggest artistes kicks off with Grammy Award winning American rock band Linkin Park’s much anticipated “New Divide”. As mainstream as the band from California is, this four odd minute track will grow on you. As the heart thumping chorus blasts “So give me reason, to prove me wrong, to wash this memory clean. Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes”, you may just cry your heart out if you just went through an emotional trauma – yes, this powerful song is that potent.

Following that authoritative track you get contributions from the “who’s who” of the industry: Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool soulfully belt out “21 Guns” from their latest album “21st Century Breakdown”, while post grunge rock band Cavo mournfully performs “Let it Go” and piano rock band The Fray melancholically sings “Never Say Never”. These are the more expressive moments (i.e. you can actually hear lyrics in these tracks) on the album, because from here on, you can expect tracks that will blow you away (these ear shattering melodies are really either “love it or hate it” things).

Successful Canadian rock band Nickelback screams out “Burn It To The Ground”, punk rock band The Used screams out “Burning Down the House”, and alternative rock band Staind screams out “This Is It”. Is it us or do we get a feeling that the soundtrack producers are putting these angst ridden titles together to enrage the bang and blast in us?

The album ends with pop rock band Cheap Trick’s Transformers: The Fallen Remix, which adds a techno punk touch to the nostalgic tunes we know. Well, in our opinion, it only takes a music genre like this to fit Bay’s eardrum shattering robot movie – and we are not complaining, because it does wonders to a stressful soul which just wants to: Scream-Out-Loud.
