ALBUM REVIEW:
Inspired by a true story, the movie is about six Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) students who were trained and
groomed to become experts in card counting. And in the spirit
of practicing what you learn these cool dudes subsequently
took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings. And here’s
the cool compilation of songs to accompany the cool movie.
Kicking
off the 64-minute soundtrack album is English band The Rolling
Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”,
which is a sure bet on any music play list which aspires to
be catchy and cool. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards,
this song was released in 1969 and re-mixed and re-edited
by Belgian alternative rock and electro band Soulwax. You
know it’s a great deal when the tune was named as the
100th greatest song of all time by influential American magazine
Rolling Stone in its 2004 list of "500 Greatest Songs
of All Time."
Other
chill out tunes include dance punk musical project LCD Soundsystem’s
“Big Ideas”, Brazilian musician DJ Amon Tobin’s
“Always” and English rock band Kasabian’s
“L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)”. These tunes will
impress your friends when it comes to a gathering or party
to just relax and chill out. We can imagine the cool blue
neon lights in the background already.
Then
we have the more popular tunes like The Aliens’ emotional
“I Am the Unknown”, Rihanna”-ella-ella”’s
radio friendly “Shut Up and Drive” and Domino’s
exotic but fun “Tropical Moonlight”. These songs
will appeal to listeners of mainstream music without sounding
too irritatingly saccharine.
There
is something for everybody in this soundtrack album, and what
we are lacking now, are the cool and slick looks and moves
that will allow us to hit it big at the casinos. Well, maybe
it’s just a MIT thing.
