REVIEW

I read from IMDB that someone thought that John Tucker Must Die the movie is as good as Bring It On. This means it is also similar to High School Musical. This means hot horny high school girls and even hornier jocks bringing it on while some high school musical is being played in the background. Next thing we know, someone must die.

The music we hear in the background of John Tucker Must Die is sung by people like The All-American Rejects and groups like Stefy and Motion City Soundtrack. Unfortunately, The All-American Rejects didn’t really deliver. Instead, tucked somewhere in the album are nice tracks such as Stefy’s Fool for Love and Nada Surf’s I Love What You Say, as well as Ben Lee’s Float On.

However, I find myself experiencing a general sense of malaise while listening to the soundtrack. It is probably due to old age, but I had no problems with the SoaP soundtrack. Then I heard Quietdrive’s warped Time after time and everything falls into place. There is nothing wrong with the soundtrack, but something is wrong with the subject matter.

You know those high school parties on TV with too much coke (the soft drink!) but no alcohol; many awkward goons but just a few dudes; many Rini Bells but only one Kirsten Dunst? The player in the background sounds just like this. The soundtrack did not rise above mediocrity.
