ALBUM REVIEW:

Talk about girl power. The soundtrack album to the sequel to the 2008 movie Sex and the City, which is based on the popular HBO TV series of the same name contains some of the most powerful female voices of pop culture. The amazing Alicia Keys kicks off the album with her version of Debbie Harry’s iconic hit “Rapture”. The acclaimed American recording artist, musician and (yes, like almost every one else out there) actress belts out the emotionally powerful tune to set the pace for the CD.

The eclectic vibe of modern day New York is also represented by the rich vocals of diverse singers like Dido, Erykah Badu and Ricki-Lee in this too glam to be true soundtrack. So girls, get ready to Carrie on with the music.

British singer songwriter Dido brings a touch of contemporary class in “Everything to Lose”, the R & B, hip hop and jazz artiste Erykah Badu brings on the soulful “Window Seat”, while Australian pop singer performs the energetic “Can’t Touch It (Radio Edit)” with verve and oomph.

Just when you thought you’ve heard enough, you hear a powerhouse duet “Love is Your Colour” performed by Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis. How’s that for a valuable package for a potent mix of two of the greatest voices in today’s pop scene? Keys also returns to sing “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down”, where you wished that you could be transported to New York straightaway.

There are also a few tracks on the CD featuring the Sex and the City Men’s Choir - “If Ever I Would Leave You”, “Sunrise, Sunset” and “Till There Was You”. If you have seen the must watch chick flick this summer blockbuster season, you’d be smiling from ear to ear like us while listening to these three cues.

The girls have their fair share of showcasing their vocals in the album. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon perform “I Am Woman” to, well, entertaining effect. Let’s just say they look better in their colourful outfits.

ALBUM RATING:

Recommended Track: (9) Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down – Alicia Keys
