Over the past three years, Andrew has only made one film, the lightweight romantic
comedy “Look For A Star” (2009), a far cry from the prolificacy and quality audiences have
come to expect from the veteran. Yet, “The Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen”
may just be the film to turn his fortunes around.
In an interview with CNN back in 2007, Andrew said: “I still remember 2002, it’s a very hard
time for Hong Kong industry, no movies in Hong Kong and also at this moment, I start my new company, so many people said you’re crazy…But I thought movie is my everything. So
I set up my company. So that's why I always say this is my luck, hard working is the second,
intelligence is third.”
At a time when the tides of the Hong Kong film industry have taken a tentative and
precarious turn for the better, Andrew Lau remains one of the industry’s best hopes to regain
the chutzpah of its Young and Dangerous and Infernal Affairs glory days. After all, who’s to
say you can’t be lucky three times round?
