ALBUM REVIEW:

All hail King Khan. The star who is Shahrukh Khan is starring in a new Bollywood film, and it may be one of the most enjoyable this reviewer has watched yet. And with it comes with a rocking soundtrack album that deserves a place on any Bollywood fan’s music shelf.

The 61-minute disc contains music by Vishal & Shekhar (Ta Ra Rum Pum, another Bollywood vehicle that was screened locally recently). The duo has created a wide variety of music genres for this jolly Bollywood musical directed by acclaimed choreographer Farah Khan.

Opening the album is the romantic “Ajab Si”, where King Khan first meets the female protagonist at a movie premiere. The innocently sweet melody will sweep any die-hard romantic off his or her feet. Following that is the dance track “Dard E Disco”, where King Khan dances along with some sexy female dancers while showing off his six packs. Next up is the highlight of this album “Deewangi Deewangi”, where you can spot your favorite Bollywood star in a nine-minute segment featuring some 31 celebrities. You’ll find yourself chanting to the song’s chorus “Put your hands up and say Om Shanti Om!”.

While the dreamy “Main Agar Kahoon” is a music box waltz enchantment where the male and female protagonists gradually fall in love, “Jag Soona Soona Lage” is a track which features King Khan’s devastation and lovelorn. While “Dhoom Taana” is a cheeky tribute to cinema of the yesteryears, “Dastaan E Om Shanti Om” is King Khan’s solemn rendition of a majestic tune that echoes the moods of the musical The Phantom of the Opera.

The rest of the album contains remixes and rearrangements of these abovementioned tracks. You may have noticed that we have not provided any translations for the seven main songs featured on this soundtrack – other than the fact that we do not understand the language; it is another clear sign that music transcends all barriers.

How else can you explain the phenomenon of this reviewer’s fixation to religiously watch the “Deewangi Deewangi” scene on youtube, and nodding his head to the catchy tune every other night?
