SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:

A plot like this can only be conjured up by the folks at Disney: A young girl works as a cook at a summer rock camp, hoping to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. Her voice soars above the competitive campers and is heard by a teen pop star. She must then confront her fears to learn how to step into the spotlight. The TV movie starring newcomer Demi Lovato and American boy band Jonas Brothers is the second highest viewed TV movie on Disney Channel after the phenomenal High School Musical 2 – so why are we not surprised that the soundtrack album will be selling like hot cakes?

The 38 minute album is one high spirited jolly affair with 12 tracks from the show. You can expect all of them to be catchy tunes, entertainingly performed with likable melodies that will make you want to, well, dance and rock along.

The disc opens with the energetic “We Rock”, featuring the entire cast singing along to a show stopping tune, chanting “We Rock, We Rock, We Rock…” Then the up and coming Jonas Brothers belt up “Play My Music”, a radio friendly hit that hooks you with the chorus “Music’s In My Soul, I Can Hear It…” Things can more emotional in tracks like “Gotta Find You” and “This Is Me”, where the lovey dovey couple played by Joe Jonas and Lovato sing to their hearts’ content.

These are songs that will appeal greatly to the younger listeners. If you have no clue to what this TV movie is about, the songs may be a tad too wholesome, or even irritatingly happy. But one must understand the idea of capitalizing a soundtrack for a successful genre to fully appreciate this album, and if it’s a good remedy to chase away those blues, why not?
