SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
The future has indeed arrived for Disney animation. Just like
how the animation studios has ditched its traditional 2D princes
and princesses for life-like 3D human characters, the music
featured in the movies have evolved over the years too.
Forget
about animals and kitchen objects breaking into song and dance
the Broadway style, welcome popular singers with bestselling
albums like Rufus Wainwright, Rob Thomas and Jamie Cullum.
Thanks
to the pop culture, youngsters would have no problems relating
to the tunes belted out by the singers on this 53-minute soundtrack
album. So whenther it is Wainwright soulfully singing his
woozy “The Motion Waltz (Emotional Commotion)”,
The All-American Rejects screaming their heads off in the
catchy “The Future Has Arrived”, or the Jonas
Brothers attempting their best to rock it out in “Kids
Of The Future”, there is something for everyone here.
For
those with a more refined taste, there’s always the
snazzy English Jazz pianist Cullum to charm your socks off.
There
is also a somewhat stringent serving of Danny Elfman’s
score on this accessible soundtrack. The 30 minutes of music
may not be anything innovative to the loyal Elfman fan, but
they are enjoyable nonetheless.
Reminiscent
of other Elfman scores like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
(2005), Big Fish (2003) and Corpse Bride (2005), tracks like
“Goob's Story” and “A Family United”
promises sweet and warm moments which are soothing to listen
to.
But
what is any Elfman score without the zaniness and wackiness.
Find these hilarious moments in “To The Future!”
and “Setting Things Straight”.
While
you won’t be hearing spaceships and skyscrapers breaking
into songs in Disney animated features anytime soon, be assured
that the new brand of music is still as magical as ever.
