ROBERT REDFORD (1936 - 2025)

Robert Redford, one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, has died at the age of 89.

Best remembered for classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), All the President’s Men (1976), and Out of Africa (1985), Redford’s career spanned more than six decades. Beyond acting, he made a lasting mark on the industry by founding the Sundance Film Festival in 1981, which grew into one of the world’s most influential showcases for independent cinema.

Redford also built a reputation as a passionate advocate for environmental causes, lending his voice and influence to conservation efforts throughout his life.

He was known for his versatility, taking on roles ranging from the controversial Indecent Proposal (1993) opposite Demi Moore to directing acclaimed films such as A River Runs Through It (1992), which won three Academy Awards, as well as Quiz Show (1994) and The Horse Whisperer (1998), the latter of which he also starred in.

To younger audiences, Redford became familiar as Alexander Pierce in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and later reprising the role in Avengers: Endgame (2019). His final leading role came in the 2018 crime drama The Old Man & the Gun, a fitting farewell to his remarkable career in front of the camera.
