KING OF MAHJONG is the top Chinese movie at the Malaysia box office last weekend!

Singapore-Malaysia co-production KING OF MAHJONG (麻雀王) has emerged impressively as the top Chinese movie at the Malaysia Box Office last weekend (5 - 8 March 2015), collecting a strong RM1 million over the 4-day period.

KING OF MAHJONG opened in Malaysia on 26 February and has now collected a whopping 3.9 million Ringgit after 11 days of release. Most importantly, it has beaten 10 other Chinese movies currently on release to become the top Chinese movie choice of cinema-goers during the 4-day weekend in Malaysia. It has also done well in Singapore, collecting close to S$800,000 after 18 days of release.

KING OF MAHJONG is set to become director Adrian Teh’s highest grossing movie in Malaysia, beating his previous mark of RM4.3 million set by THE WEDDING DIARY 2. It may also possibly catch lead actor Mark Lee’s record box office in Malaysia of RM4.6 million, set in 2008 by MONEY NO ENOUGH 2

A family comedy set in modern times, KING OF MAHJONG illustrates how friendship among kampong kakis ("buddies") and love between family members underscore all ambitions and desire for power. Movie viewers can expect the boisterous characters to generate loads of witty, well-timed, jokes and look forward to lots of lively repartee. ______________
