DEATH NOTE: LIGHT UP THE NEW WORLD Continues Box Office Success After 10 Years

10 years after the last DEATH NOTE film, sequel DEATH NOTE LIGHT UP THE NEW WORLD continues the series’ success at the box office, grossing over S$530,000 in just 6 days. The film currently ranks second at the local box office after DOCTOR STRANGE, winning titles like TROLLS, OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL and YOUR NAME, which was a big hit in Japan. In Japan, the film achieved over ¥458,645,800 (S$5,947,450) during its opening weekend, and took over the top spot at the box office. The sequel’s success also proves its longstanding popularity amongst fans and audiences everywhere.

The DEATH NOTE film series- DEATH NOTE 1, DEATH NOTE 2: THE LAST NAME and spin-off L CHANGE THE WORLD - has been the box office record holder for Japanese films in Singapore for the past 10 years, grossing over S$4.4 million combined. The Death Note story has captivated audiences worldwide with its sensational story setting that involves a supernatural notebook ‘Death Note’ that kills anyone whose name is written in it. It has since been adapted into various forms including an anime and live action television series, a stage musical, games, and, most recently, an upcoming Hollywood remake. After 10 years, members from the original production team reunited for the grand mission of creating yet another memorable chapter for the series. 10 years has passed since the Death Note murders and the final confrontation between Kira and L. Again, the Shinigami sends Death Notes to the ground, and the world soon falls into chaos. A ripple of mass murders caused by the Death Notes occur in the United States, Japan and other countries around the world. Mishima (Masahiro Higashide), a member of the Death Note special task force, takes up the case with 6 other investigators. Famous private detective Ryuzaki (Sousuke Ikematsu), who is the rightful successor of L, joins in the investigation. They discover that 6 Death Notes currently exist in the world. While they are investigating the case, cyber terrorist Yuki Shien (Masaki Suda) sends a computer virus throughout the world’s systems. The virus carries a video of Kira that says to surrender all 6 Death Notes...
