72 HOURS (NETFLIX) (2026)

SYNOPSIS: A forty-year-old executive (Kevin Hart) hopes to save his flailing career by joining a group of twenty-somethings (Marcello Hernández, Mason Gooding, Kam Patterson, Ben Marshall) on a wild three-day bachelor party, after he’s inadvertently added to their group text.

MOVIE REVIEW:

For a Kevin Hart-led comedy, you would expect at least a few laughs from the comedian. Sorry to disappoint, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a single laugh in this 105 minutes comedy.

Hart plays Joe Nixon, an advertising executive who finds himself on the verge of losing a promotion unless he can come up with an idea that appeals to a younger audience. When he is accidentally added to a group chat for a bachelor party made up of twenty-somethings, he decides to tag along on their trip to Miami.

At this point, you already know where 72 Hours is heading—raunchy jokes, rowdy gags and plenty of nudity, perhaps. And for the most part, you would be right. The biggest problem, however, is that none of it is particularly funny.

To be fair, Hart is still operating at his usual energetic best, playing the most mature person in a group that includes the soon-to-be groom Mason (Mason Gooding), his man-child friend Nick (Marcello Hernández), Hunter (Ben Marshall) and Freshman (Kam Patterson). The film also attempts to explore themes of commitment, emotional maturity, adult responsibility and friendship. However, the entire experience is so bizarre and unfocused that none of these ideas land with the emotional weight they should.

There is a recurring gag involving Joe transforming into a certain Ricardo Montana after snorting a huge amount of cocaine. Sadly, this ends up being the film’s primary running joke, and while it may earn a chuckle the first time, it quickly wears out its welcome. Then there is a subplot involving a menacing drug lord, Jaze (Michael Mando), which ultimately fizzles out with a disappointing payoff.

72 Hours is directed by Tim Story, best known for Ride Along, Think Like a Man, Barbershop and the original Fantastic Four. At this stage, he feels very much like a director-for-hire and 72 Hours is yet another forgettable entry on his résumé. Hart’s energy and comic timing are still intact, he simply deserves a better script and perhaps stronger co-stars. As it stands, this is one comedy that shouldn’t even make it onto anyone’s watchlist.
