'The Sorcerer and the White Snake' joins Venice's line-up

The 68th Venice Film Festival has announced its line-up on the official website, with The Sorcerer and the White Snake invited to the Out-of-Competition segment, marking the first Chinese fantasy film to be showcasing in an A-grade festival.

Presented by China Juli Entertainment Media Co., Ltd., "The Sorcerer and the White Snake" is produced by Chui Po Chu, directed by Tony Ching Siu-tung, and starring Jet Li, Eva Huang, Raymond Lam, Charlene Choi, Wen Zhang, Vivian Hsu and Jiang Wu. This re-imagining of the classic fantasy tale has been one of the hottest titles among the international film buyers, as well as the best overseas sales this year.

Yang Zi, the executive producer, is excited that the film was selected by Venice. He would join the cast and crew to the festival, and organize a major promotional event at the Lido. As the film's distributor, Yu Dong, chairman and CEO of Bona Film Group, announces that "The Sorcerer and the White Snake" is the best Chinese film in overseas sales this year. The buyers are keen to see the reunion of producer Chui Po Chu, director Tony Ching Siu-tung, and action star Jet Li, the three pillars of Chinese action cinema.

Tony Ching and Jet Li have collaborated in various martial arts classics, including "Swordsman 2", "The Scripture with No Words",  "Hero" and "The Warlords". Chui Po Chu has produced three of the top-grossing foreign films in North America, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Fearless". She has worked with Jet Li for over two decades, with such blockbusters as "Fong Sai Yuk", "Bodyguard From Beijing", "Tai Chi Master" and "Once Upon a Time in China".

The film opens in Singapore this Sept! Meanwhile, you can check out the trailer below:
