SYNOPSIS:

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in this sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best there is at extraction: stealing valuable secrets inside the subconscious during the mind’s vulnerable dream state. His skill has made him a coveted player in industrial espionage but also has made him a fugitive and cost him dearly. Now he may get a second chance if he can do the impossible: inception, planting an idea rather than stealing one. If they succeed, Cobb and his team could pull off the perfect crime. But no planning or expertise can prepare them for a dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy only Cobb could have seen coming.

MOVIE REVIEW:

Is there even a need to review this movie on DVD?

The fact that you are reading this review would mean that you have decent knowledge of movies that are available in the market, and there is no reason why you wouldn’t have heard how mind blowing this Christopher Nolan directed thriller is.

“Dazzling. Breathtaking.” – These are the words of Roger Ebert, the renowned film critic and screenwriter whose review column has been appearing in Chicago Sun-Times since 1967. When Mr Ebert tells you that a film is dazzling and breathtaking, need we say more? And do we need to mention how this movie has made it to almost every other reviewer’s Top 10 List? The three columnists chosen to shortlist their Top 10 Lists on our humble website would not dare to leave this modern classic out.

We didn’t think anyone in the right mind would.

But because we have the obligation to review this DVD sent to us by the friendly distributor, here goes: The protagonist is a thief who has the power to enter the human mind to steal dreams. Yes, the world may just become so technologically advanced that this unthinkable mission is made possible. He gets employed to carry out a task which may prove to be his most challenging yet – inception.

That is about all we can pen to describe the movie’s plot. This is clearly a film which you must watch to experience the ingenuity of Nolan. Layer after layer of dreams and sub consciousness, all executed with perfection to keep your eyes glued on screen. The 148 minute film may run over two hours, but there is no one moment which you feel bogged down or disengaged. Through action packed scenes which actually require you to use your intellect (we can’t say the same for blockbuster movies directed by, say, a certain Mr. Bay), this film is a winner from beginning to end. This has probably been said many times already, but this Golden Globe nominee is one mind twister which you need to experience for yourself.

Starring a godsend ensemble comprising of Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine (there – we have credited every name that is listed on the DVD cover), this movie boasts of wonderful performances which are faultless.

Sure, there are probably two camps for this movie – One which love it to bits, and one which thinks that this is one big self indulging pompous act. Pardon us, for we belong to the first camp of die hard fans.

And do we need to mention the ending that got the world talking? We only have one word to describe it: Wow. If you haven’t heard about it already (which is almost impossible in this case), then you have to experience it for yourself. There are countless interpretations out there, but only your mind has the answer to this, or does it?

SPECIAL FEATURES :

You wouldn’t expect anything less from a movie this spectacular, would you?

This Code 3 two disc set contains a second DVD filled with impressive extra features. Dreams: Cinema of the Subconscious is a 44 minute documentary hosted by Gordon-Levitt which dwells into the scientific aspects of dreams and sleep. The information presented here may be too heavy handed for some, but it sure made us feel intelligent. The 15 minute Inception: The Cobol Job tells you what happened before the movie when Leo and his gang were employed by Cobol Engineering to execute a dream stealing job. At 39 minutes, Hans Zimmer’s hypnotic score is presented on the 5.1 Soundtrack – here’s one for the fans. Rounding up the platter is a massive collection of Conceptual Art, Promotional Art and Trailer/ TV Spot Galleries which will have fans smiling from ear to ear.

AUDIO/VISUAL:

The movie's visual transfer is pristine, and you can choose to watch the feature in either English or Thai.
